They where vassals of the Gardner Kings and had a bloody rivalry with House Peake and when a Gardener King died and left no sons only daughters, both lord Manderly and Peake thought there wives should sit the Gardner Throne and murder, conspiracy and betrayal happened eventual leading to war until a Tyrell steward put a cousin of the late Gardener king and put a stop to the war.
House Manderly was originally from a rich castle called Dunstonbury which was at the end of the Mander River, which is supposedly name after them or vise versa.
